2-28-10

We're taking the slow boat to China approach to potty training since we've heard so many little ones regress once a new baby gets here.  But lately Cora has been motivated so we've been going with it.  Tonight I got this:

Cora:  Mommy - can you wait outside so that I can have my privacies please?

2-27-10

The paci fairy came yesterday so tonight was night two sans pacifier (or if you're Cora, "facifier") so drifting off to bed is taking a little more time than usual.  After going up there to tell her she needed to quiet down and concentrate on sleeping (instead of singing or playing with her animals) this was our convo:

Cora:  I have an owie Mommy
Me:  Where honey?
Cora:  On my hand.
Me:  *kisses little hand*
Cora:  I have an owie on my butt too
Me: (trying not to laugh)  Well mommy is not gonna kiss your butt right now
Cora:  Can you put some butter on it?
Me:  Put butter on your butt??
Cora:  Yeah.
Me:  Well lets think about that for tomorrow morning - its night night time right now

The only thing I can think of is that she confused "butt paste" with "butter"  :D

Cora loves to play outside in the snow, so after her nap, Daddy told her they could go play outside.  He got her a snack and then started to get his coat on, etc.  After a few minutes of waiting for her to finish this was how things went down:

Ryan:  Cora, don't you want to go play outside in the snow?
Cora (matter of factly):  Daddy - of course I do.  But right now I'm going to sit down and eat my snack.

Daddy's can be so impatient when they want something!  Humph.

On the way into work, we always drive over a river that is currently somewhere between water and ice.  Cora is fascinated with the process so this morning these were her observations:

Cora:  Mommy is that water turning into ice?
Me:  Yes it is - or its trying to.
Cora:  Where did all the gooses go Mommy?
Me:  They went somewhere warmer for the winter
Cora:  I wanna go wif them.
Me:  Amen sister!  Mommy does too!
Cora:  Daddy, lets go somewhere warmer ok?
Ryan:  Um, well we'll think about that
Me (to Ryan):  And I didn't even bribe her!

Cora made out like a candy bandit on V-day (as would be expected).   One of the things she really loved was a small heart-shaped, fuzzy pillow she got from her grandma.  She carried it around with her for a while, but then when she realized that Mommy did not have any big V-day haul like she did, handed it to me and said:  "Happy Balentimes Day Mommy.  You can have dis.  I love you."   That was all the 'present' I needed!

2-10-10

Today Cora and I dropped Daddy off at the airport for his annual snowboarding trip with his college buddies.  This was the first year Cora really understood Daddy was going away for a while and she cried pretty hard a good part of the way home.  Luckily MeMe came over this evening to cheer her up.

However, after I put her to bed, I went back downstairs and was just settling into American Idol when I heard this on the monitor:

Cora: Mommy, can you come here please?  I think I'm having a hard day.

Mommy hightailed it upstairs and sat with a certain little someone singing soft lullabies until she sleepily told me she was "feeling very better" and it was ok to leave.

Cora was sitting watching Land Before Time (her latest obsession) while Ryan was putting together our new TV console table.  He had gotten through most of it and was just nailing on the back when, during a break between nails he heard:

Cora: Daddy, can you please stop pounding that so I can hear my movie?

Oh Iowa winters....

(on the way home today)
Cora:  Mommy I'm looking at the snow
Me:  There's a lot of it to look at
Cora: I think its pretty
Me:  Yeah I think so too but I'd sure like to see some Sunshine!
Cora: *yelling*  Hey!  Sun!  Come out here RIGHT NOW.  Mommy wants to see you!

You tell em sister.

Cora went off to find her dad upstairs (who was doing some laundry) and once she found him gave him a few options about his next steps:

Cora:  Daddy, you can come downstairs with me, or you can still do laundry, or you can go pee pee on the toilet, or you can go in baby's room and take a nap, or you can go in my room and fix somethin' or you can come downstairs with me.  Those are your choices, ok?

Cora: (tonight, after a climbing up a big snow hill) Daddy? A little help here?
